Welcome to the 2024 Nagano Cup

The Nagano Cup is an annual draft hockey tournament in Nagano, Japan, that brings together a great group of local and international hockey players. Since the first tournament in 2003, the Nagano Cup has been a great event for meeting other hockey players in Japan.

On behalf of the Tokyo Canadians Hockey Club, we cordially invite you to the 12th Nagano Cup tournament at the Yamabiko Arena in Okaya City, Nagano.

The Nagano Cup is a draft tournament, meaning the teams will be balanced

Draft Tournament

The Nagano Cup is a "Draft" Tournament. The tournament directors will divide the players based on ability and age so the teams will be balanced. There is limited availability on the roster, and it is first come – first served. Rosters will be announced when you check in on June 29th. If it’s your first time to play, we will contact you.

After reaching the maximum number of players, you will be put on a waiting list and informed if there are any cancellations.

Registered Players to meet at Yamabiko no Mori rink at 10 am on June 29!

To keep the tournament on schedule, the game times will be held on time, and all players must be on the ice and ready for their games for their respective start times.

A great weekend of hockey for a great price

Tournament Fees

You will have fun during the weekend, and many team members will bring their partners and family. If Yamabiko no Mori is fully booked, there is additional accommodation in Okaya City if our cabins are fully booked.

  • Tournament Fee + Accommodation

    We have booked 12 Cabins at Yamabiko no Mori. Yamabiko no Mori is just a short walk from the hockey rink. If you bring a guest, there is a fee of ¥6,500 (or $45 USD) per person.

    • Jersey and socks, complimentary water & beer (adult players), muffins (Sunday morning)
    • Championship team player receive gift
    • Cabin Stay - Families with infant children will get priority on the small "A-type" cabins (2-3 people).
    • Additional guests allowed - ¥6,500 (or $45 USD) per additional person
    • Bathhouse usage in cabin area on June 29th and June 30th
  • Tournament Fee Only

    If you decide to stay at one of the local hotels in Okaya City, Nagano, we have a tournament-only fee for you.

We understand that life is busy. If you need to cancel, it's best to let us know as soon as possible so we can try to find someone to take your place. Please see our cancellation guidelines below for more information.

Refund Policy
  • Full refund

    If you cancel by May 31, 2024 we will refund the full amount, less ¥2,000 (administration fee).

  • 50% refund

    If you cancel between June 1 & June 14, 2024, we will process a 50% refund.

  • No refund

    If you cancel between June 15 & June 30, 2024, we will be unable to process a refund.

The tournament game format

Game Format

Saturday Games

Saturday Round Robin Games

  • Warm-up 5-minutes
  • Team/individual photos before the game (during warmup)
  • 2 periods of 25-minutes running time
  • 3-minute break between periods
  • No Hitting, No Fighting
  • Off-sides & icings* will be called
  • No abusing the officials
  • Penalty will be 1:30

Tie breaker rules for end of Saturday standings based on:

  • Most points
  • Most wins
  • Head-to-Head
  • Least goals against
  • Least penalty minutes
  • Greater goal difference
  • Higher goals for

If still tied, a puck toss will determine the position

Sunday Games

Sunday Bronze/Gold Medal Games

  • Warm-up 5-minutes
  • 15-minutes stop time
  • 3-minute break between periods
  • No Hitting, No Fighting
  • Off-sides & icings* will be called
  • No abusing the officials
  • Penalty will be 2:00 stop time
  • If game tied with 10 mins of time remaining on the ‘real’ clock (e.g., 11:20 am) a shootout will start.

OT & shootout rules Sunday Games

  • 5-minute 3-on-3 OT
  • If necessary: 3-player shootout, then sudden death shootout (one shooter at a time)
  • On-ice ceremony for winning teams
  • Additional rules will be announced prior to the start of the tournament.
  • The tournament format is subject to change. Final confirmation of the Rules and Format will be released prior to the start of the tournament.
  • Cabins at Yamabiko no Mori

    Accomodation

    Yamabiko no Mori offers 12 cabins in close proximity to the hockey rink. These rustic cabins are well-equipped with everything you will need during the tournament.

    In addition, there is a bath house on site with showers and a bath. This is included in the accommodation fee.

    *Staying at the cabins is optional.
    • A-type cabin (sleeps 2-3) – 2 beds, 1 sofa bed
    • B-type cabin (sleeps 4-6) – 4 beds, 2 futon sets
